It's still nice and warm outside in the Northern Hemisphere, but fall will be here soon and if you're like us, you'll be looking for some extra layers to make sure you're well equipped to keep riding as the days get shorter, wetter, and colder. Fox has just dropped their 2020 fall/winter collection, and we thought we should highlight a few key items that look particularly interesting at this time.
Apparel and Helmets
On the apparel side, the three main product families carry over from previous years - Defend, Ranger, and Flexair, in descending order of robustness. Defend is made to deal with anything, while Flexair focuses on light weight and breathability. The main new color themes for the season evolve around shades of green, called "emerald" and "pine", and variants of purple. There are new kits in all the apparel categories on both the men's and the women's side, and matching helmets to accompany it all.
Outerwear
Keeping warm and dry while physically exerting yourself is a challenge, but one that Fox has been producing great gear for over the past couple of years. They look set to continue building on that strength with an ever expanding range of gear for cold and wet days. Water, Fire, and Wind are the three main product categories used to classify items in this range, and they are further divided up by the aforementioned Defend, Ranger, and Flexair lines. A Flexair rain jacket will thus be lighter and more breathable than a Ranger 3-layer rain pant, for example.
Gloves
Keeping your hands warm and protected when it's nasty outside is one of the keys to enjoying yourself even as the elements conspire against you. Fox has a wide range of different options now, whether you're looking to protect yourself against the weather or those pesky branches out to rap you on your knuckles should you stray too far off the beaten path.
Protection
Fox has been growing their line of guards and protection over the past couple of seasons as well, and we've had good results in some of our recent testing. Aside from more "normal" items such as knee and elbow pads, Fox also has a more modern and streamlined take on body armor that we particularly appreciate - great for riders looking to add protection to crucial parts of the body without too much extra bulk. A good example of this is the Baseframe Pro, a D3O-equipped upper body protector that features a modular design, allowing you to remove the sleeves for less taxing days.
