Handmade, TIG welded 4130 frame with 7075 T651 alu rockers. 8" of travel, 1" of rearward axle path. 150x12 Maxle type dropouts, 8" Post Mount brake boss (no adaptor needed), 1.5" HT, HA 62.5-64*, WB 47.25", CS 17.125", BBH 13.85" . Modified Manitou Travic TPC+ Cartridge fitted into 888 chassis. Custom made short cage for XT der.

That´s a clean build. In your creation you really showed the beauty of steel.
Would you tell something about the tubing?
Have you used sheetmetal? What wallthicknesses have you used in which places?

Hi! It is 4130 normalized aircraft tubing. Used sheetmetal only for shock mount near BB. Wall thickness vary from 0.049" to 0.078". Dropouts and CS clamps are made of different kind of steel.

Wow! Really cool! I like the use of a BB (or two of them in this case) as bearings! One question though, (not trying to citizen but just wondering) why do you have the bottom arm, the one in witch the upper chain pull runs, so far back, does it make a smoother linkage, or create the suspension kematics you were looking for? It just seems like it chain stay length way longer! But very cool build! Love the Cromo!

I second the creative use of BB and also second the query on chain stay to seat tube pivot placement.

I'm going to guess that it had to do with preserving a specific wheel base and wheel path (had the pivot been located further forward then if the rear triangle dimension don't change then it will have a shorter wheelbase. If the rear triangle were to get longer to keep the wheelbase then then wheel path would be more rearward and less upward.) I presume that the rockers dimensions and placement were the main tuning factor for suspension rates.

PS i love the cleaver use of a idler concentric with the chainstay to seat tube pivot (thereby allowing you to have an ultra high IC and the nice back and up wheel path without detrimental chain growth) while then also putting a pivot on the chainstay near the junction with the seat stay to create a small amount of chain growth and presumably some antisquat. Brilliant.

Pivot placement was designed to achieve specific axle path, leverage curve and anti squat values.
