Orbea Oiz - 21lbs (9.5kg) - MyO Custom Build - The Ultimate XC Race Machine 2
Parts
General Info
I started with an Orbea Oiz M-Pro model, featuring custom MyO paint in Raw Carbon View with Titanium/Silver accents. The M-Pro is a relatively affordable build at $6,500, yet it offers Orbea's lightest OMX frame, XTR components, Oquo carbon wheels, Fox Factory Suspension, and custom MyO paint options. The frame weighs in at 1820g. This bike is fully built for racing with a focus on durability and performance; yet it remains exceptionally lightweight.
Unique Features:
First off, I love that even at $6,500, this bike came with the highest-end suspension, OMX Frame, and top-level drivetrain components, so I didn't have to switch out too much to get the build I wanted. However, I did make some unique customizations to make this bike truly mine.
Customizations:
Wheels: Custom-built by a friend, these wheels have been fantastic on my last two bikes. They are decently light at 1300g.
Crank: Cannondale's Hollowgram cranks, which are among the lightest (425g with power meter) and most durable cranks available, even lighter than SRAM's XX SL (450g w/ PM) carbon cranks.
Brakes: Switched from Shimano XT to Magura's MT8 SL brakes with titanium bolts and carbon levers, weighing in under 400g for the set.
Dropper Post: BikeYoke Divine SL 125, cut to 390g, the lightest for any dropper in that travel range.
Tires: Continental Cross King 2.2 (610g) front and Race King 2.2 (580g) rear, my all-time favorites.
Drivetrain Upgrade: After my XT cassette wore out, I upgraded to a Garbaruk 10-52t cassette with their 34t chainring, which has been flawless and shifts perfectly.
Weight:
Without Pedals, Cages, Tools etc: 9.5 kg (21 lbs)
Full Race Spec: 9.97 kg (21.97 lbs) including pedals, two bottle cages, power meter, tools, tire plug, f/r lockout, and Garmin computer
Why I Love It:
This bike has been my companion in many races, delivering outstanding performance. It’s not just about the wins—4th in the PanAm Championship, 1st and 2nd in the state championship (back-to-back years), and 1st overall in the iCup series—but also about the ride quality. The Fox suspension and carbon frame provide a smooth, responsive experience on all terrains. It’s a blend of engineering excellence and personal achievement. With my unique customizations, I feel this bike stands out from the crowd and provides the performance I need, allowing me to focus on racing at my peak without worrying about component failure.
