General Info
I handed back the previous generation of the Epic Evo and took delivery of this one. I brought it home and built it up. There have been quite a few upgrades and improvements given to the Epic 8 Evo.
The travel has been increased by 10mm front and rear, which now sits at 130mm up front and 120mm in the rear. It seems like it will be a much more capable bike that will be tad more aggressive than the previous model. With a slightly longer wheelbase and a slacker head angle, it will make the whole package feel a bit more stable on the kinds of trails that the older model was a bit more reluctant to handle.
The frame now has the fully integrated SWAT box which is a welcome addition, meaning that the days of stuffing your pockets with spares are now a thing of the past. You can get a spare tube, c02 canisters, trail side snacks and a light jacket in there. Brilliant!
The other new feature is the addition of the steering limiter that's built into the headset, which prevents the controls from smashing into the top tube in the event of a crash. On the previous model this was never an issue as I had enough spacers under the stem so the shifter would never connect with the top tube but with the extra travel up front on the newer model, the handlebars are now lower in relation to the top tube so having this new system is amazing.
I can't wait to give this bike a good run in over the coming weeks. It seems like the extra travel and the little improvements throughout will make it en even more enjoyable bike to ride.
