My 1992 Kona Hei Hei Resto-Mod
Parts
General Info
I bought this Bike at a local thrift store that I happen to frequent often as I reside about a 3 minute walk away . Anyways I stopped by the store after work and noticed someone dropping this bike off to the store . The employee who I talk to often mentioned that he'd have to charge $50 for it due to it being a KONA " I was laughing in my head when he said this " and said sure no problem 🤷♂️
When I purchased the bike I was a bit confused as it had the incorrect stickers on it with no surname but I had a very good feeling that it was a titanium bike as it's quite obvious . Also all the original 1992 components were replaced with cheap bike store Shimano Deore LX parts , no name rims , a cheap JUDY TT fork etc . I believe someone thought they were upgrading all the original 1992 XTR parts and also changed the stickers likely around 2002 .
I posted the bike on a Facebook KONA page and within 30 minutes I had about 20 responses saying that I just found the Holy Mecca of 1990's Kona Bikes and absolutely stole it . Even had offers from $800 -$1000 for the frame but decided to keep it .
To simply put , I've replaced every part on this bike . I was almost going to hunt for the parts to bring it to original factory condition but decided to have some fun instead . The bike is light , quick , nimble , small and is a blast being used as mainly an urban adult BMX bike . I take it on very tight single track that my 29er doesn't fit on and Gravel/Rail trails as well but it really shines for Urban cycling .
I'm also an EBAYer and as I was mentioning a thrifter , so the money I put into this bike was from the profit that I made from the very thrift store that I found the Bike so In reality this bike cost me maybe $200 " not counting the profit I made off me EBAY sales or course 😉
