2010-ish Transition TransAM single speed 26'er (size large), the newest iteration of my spare-parts bike. Contact points (seat, grips, and tires) are new but everything else is 10+ years old and taken off of my various past bikes. Sensus saddle + grips are excellent. Bathroom scale says 31 lbs with pedals, it feels heavier than that.

I love my 2012 trans am! I also stripped the decals, naked looks way better. I’ve been thinking of single speeding mine, where did you get the dropouts?

It was on my Corsair Konig (slope bike) back in the day and did a lot of laps at Whistler, kinda funny how 32mm stanchions worked fine for everyone not that long ago.

29" wheels put an extraordinarily larger force on forks than 26". The wheel diameter creates an additional 60mm of leverage. This is also why brake rotors have gotten bigger and brakes come with more pistons now, even for bikes that are being ridden on the same terrain. Leverage, dog.

But we also didn't know better and still had 20 mm axles.

After all the the boxxer went from 32vti 35 mm stanchions while still on 26" wheels.

I think I'm gonna have these wheels + cranks until the end of time, nothing this bike sees will ever stress them

Yep, same. I mostly just use it like a gravel bike now. I'm thinking about putting rigid fork on it, maybe a 29" front wheel. The fork on it is useless, I think it's broken internally.

I was actually thinking of doing similar, rigid with a 27.5 up front and the Surly "Cornerbar" (easiest way to do a dropbar conversion)... think I may grab an actual gravel bike instead and just keep this as-is for a while. Love messing with old bikes though.
