2021 NW Cup #2 Dry Hill, Port Angeles

June 4-6th brought our second race of the season back to "always sunny Port Angeles".  Well that held out for Friday... progressively getting worse until there was some great sloppy rainy racing during the Pros on Sunday.  As always Dry Hill held up great with racers happy to find their best times no matter the course.  Over 450 riders showed up to enjoy the ambiance and fun that the NW Cup crew always puts on.  Racing is also strong with the more "amateur" groups.  Cat 3 having more racers than the Cat 1 and Pro categories combined, and Cat 2 having more than Cat 3.  Not to mention the age range.  The youngest rider racing was 5yrs old, the oldest being 66! Racing is strong in the PNW!

Tobin Walker keeping it low over the hip on the pro course

Lain Pesek on Queen Diamond on his way to 3rd in Cat 2 19-29

Chayve Williams with a little style during Pro practice. He ended up 11th on the weekend.

Eric Olsen rode 130 miles (plus a ferry ride) from Bellingham, WA to Port Angeles on his Forbidden Druid and then raced that bike in the Pro DH. He finished up 13th on the day. An impressive feat no doubt!

Mia Kinerk using the power of the fern to win the Cat 3 U10 girls.

Deborah Gallanar sizing up the next jump that is taller than her on the Cat 3 course.

Luke Leavitt with a little style while rolling out of the start gate in practice. He ended up 2nd in Cat 3 15-18 boys.

Cameron Clark keeping it low and fast racing Cat 3

So many young groms slaying it at all the NW Cup races. Lucas Allen on his way to a podium spot in the U7 Boys.... Yes there are enough to have their own category.

Blast from the past ride from Jerry Knight. Sunday with angleset that has the HA at 62.5 degrees. 26 ain't dead!

Jerry Knight racing his Sunday to a 25th in pro men on Sunday. This is after not being on a bike in 15 months after breaking the head off his femur last year.

Leah Smyth charging on a borrowed bike to 4th in Cat 1 19-39 after a hard crash in practice that morning.

Demetri Triantifillou on his way to winning Pro Men in the slop.

Elle Runyan with perfect form through the berms.

Connor Hunnel in the deep, dark, wet PNW forest.

Erin Bixler after clipping a tree off the option line during JR.X practice.... some days it seems like nothing can go right....

Taylor Dunn keeping it low over the drop on his way to 6th in Jr. X

Alaina Guliuzza on the deep bowl turn at the bottom of the Cat 2 Course.

Josh Gibb getting on the podium with a 5th in Pro Men.

Julia Lofqvist Traum taking the win in Jr. X.

Rhys Ewing sending it deep off the hip.

Option one, lean inwards for the hip when sending it deep.
Option 2, cut it close to the tree and tuck the shoulder for the shorter line.

The final berm of the NW Cup is a favorite of riders and photographers... I have yet to see what too fast is for that berm....

The kids are going to be alright. Damien Comeau sending it during Cat 2 U12 practice.

Tyler Maples low and fast through the ferns.

Meghan McDonough tucked and low past the hip.

We Can't wait to see you at Tamarack, ID at the end of June!!!
