Introducing the All-New Rocky Mountain Slayer

The Slayer was first introduced to our lineup in 2001 and over the years earned itself a spot as one of our most-renowned platforms. Fast forward to today, and the new Slayer represents the next step for Rocky Mountain and aggressive, big mountain riding. The credibility we’ve built from our freeride history and legendary athletes has helped to solidify our place in the market.

Mountain bikers around the world associate Rocky Mountain as a true mountain bike brand. Our freeride athletes have been one of our most significant sports marketing investments and by leveraging their image and accomplishments, we’ve given riders around the world an exciting and inspirational way to relate and engage with Rocky Mountain.

As downhill bikes trend towards becoming dedicated race weapons, bikes like the Slayer are attracting customers looking for that aggressive, big mountain bike that can smash bike park laps all day long, and still be pedaled to, from, up, and down their local trails. The Slayer continues to be our premiere platform from a visibility standpoint, as it is incredibly versatile for riders looking to push the limits.

Rocky Mountain freeride athletes, Lucy Van Eesteren, Alex Volokhov and Hayden Zablotny put the new Slayer to the test in one of the spiritual homes of freeride: Virgin Utah. Inspired by the raw and unforgiving features of former rampage lines and the nomadic roots of cowboy culture, we created a spaghetti-western themed film to capture the essence of the Slayer and its riders.

What makes Slayer different?

Designed to Shred Hard: The Slayer’s reinforced frame means it’s bike park tough and ready for big mountain charging, available in both SMOOTHWALLTM carbon and FORMTM Alloy.

Storage Included: Carbon models now come with our new PenaltyBox downtube storage with a magnetic cover, and includes wo storage-sized pouches for tube and tools.

Fully enclosed internal routing: Allows for easy cable and hose installations, with thoughtful consideration for moto-style brake setups.

RIDE-4 Adjustment System: The RIDE-4 adjustment system allows riders to quickly fine-tune their geometry with a pair of Allen keys. Four configurations are possible thanks to one rotating chip. This allows for subtle geometry changes with minimal effect on your shock tune.

Adjustability: We’ve added a rear axle flip chip to adjust chainstay length to further fine-tune the ride to your style.

Shielded Bearings: Help prevent contamination from gnarly trail conditions or post-ride wash stations.

Wheel size compatibility: All frame sizes are full 29" and MX (29" front / 27.5" rear) wheel compatible.

Water Bottle Compatibility: All frame sizes are water bottle compatible.

Next Generation FORM Alloy: We’re still metal fans, and we have an all-new hydroforming process that yields a crazy strong mountain bike. FORM tubesets utilize premium materials to meet our strict requirements. Each FORM tube that we create is engineered for its specific purpose within the frame, ensuring optimized strength, weight, and ride quality.

SMOOTHWALL Carbon: Uses one of the world’s most sophisticated carbon processes to deliver industry leading stiffness-to-weight, ride quality, and durability. We eliminate excess resin and fibers by using rigid internal molds instead of traditional air bladders. We then utilize different types of carbon in specific frame areas to maximize stiffness and impact resistance while minimizing overall weight.

Geometry

We’ve increased the reach, made the seat tube angle steeper, lengthened the chainstays. The Slayer was designed for speed and stability.

Suspension Design

Smoothlink suspension is efficient yet supple when you’re on the pedals and across a wide range of gears. It features a controlled end-stroke and a rate-curve that feels more capable than the travel would suggest. This four-bar suspension design philosophy is centred on ride characteristics; each bike platform we develop balances variables like anti-squat, axle path, chain growth, rate curve, anti-rise, etc. to achieve the legendary Rocky Mountain ride feel.

Size Specific Tune ensures that riders of all sizes get the right balance of small-bump compliance, mid-stroke support, and end-stroke progressiveness. Our design team does custom shock tunes based on real world field testing, and adjusts each tune for specific frame sizes.
