Coming up on 20 years and the Thomson Elite is still the standard by which all others are measured. The Devo is light, comfy, and wide - everything I want in a saddle. I've always loved Hope QR clamps (even the dorky looking pre-2009 ones).

My main ride. 2010 Banshee Paradox (V1), 120mm Reba, 2x9, tubeless. An absolute animal on the trail, a freakin' bulldozer - but super-light at a hair over 28 lbs.

Bombproof drivetrain: Race Face Atlas FR crank, Phil Wood PWX05 BB bearings, heavy duty bash guard by Purely Custom, Blackspire Super Pro 34T chainring, XTR chain. The MRP LRP hasn't failed me yet. Shimano 9-speed front derailleurs are better than SRAM's but the X.9 is the only one that gives me enough tire clearance on this frame. The Spank Spike pedals are relatively new, but they've been damn good so far.

Controls set up for 1-finger braking and thumb shifting. If you're looking for lock-on grips that are thick and comfortable like Ourys but a little firmer, Lizard Skins North Shore grips are a good way to go.

Why the Franken-headset? I wanted the Cane Creek 110 top because it has a compression ring (Kings have them nowadays also, but they didn't back in 2009). I stayed with the King bottom cup because I like its beefier crown race.

There are a lot of muscular hardtails out there, but this is what makes a Banshee unique - the super-stiff box-section internally ribbed stays. I'm running 180mm (7") rotors now, but the Primes are so powerful I may switch to 6"

I'm narrow-shouldered with slightly longer than normal arms. Previously I was running an 80mm stem and cut-down Easton EA70 mid-rise (30mm) bars - an old school setup. I recently switched to a 70mm stem and the Chromag FUBARs Acute bar which is wider (720mm vs. 650mm) and has less rise (25mm) and sweep. This "new school" setup made a world of difference.
