I've converted the drivetrain to 1x using the microSHIFT Advent 9 Speed groupset, the industry's first 9 speed derailleur with a clutch!
I wanted to convert to 1x (bike came as 3x9) but not break the bank and the price and performance of the Advent groupset is right in the sweet spot at $125. The groupset isn't complete as it only includes the shifter, derailleur, and cassette. Luckily my crankset has replaceable chainrings so the only extra components I needed was a narrow-wide chainring and new chain.
Most people would have probably upgraded the spring fork before the drivetrain but the damping in the XCM fork (only available on Specialized bikes) is already a big improvement over standard spring forks found on most other entry level bikes.
After the 1x conversion and pedal upgrade, the bike lost 1.2 lbs!
