Africa’s biggest dirt competition was back again on the 6th at Potato Trails in Hout Bay. Lots of new additions & improvements were made to the trails & a serious list of international & local riders was added to this year’s event to make it the best one yet!
The Potato Trail locals had been hard at work preparing for months adding new lines & opening up loads of transfer options. A new feature to the line was a roll in tower to get speed for the line, which meant the riders could avoid the run up down the road, which helped the flow of riders & bangers stay constant.
During the week leading up to the event there were tonnes of fires all around Cape Town & a few build days were dropped to help some friends evacuate & build fire breaks, but luckily it all calmed down just in time for our madness to commence. The crowds started to roll in after 7pm & as the sun set all the riders started to flow through the trails & warm up. The local MTB boys got into things fast, Thomas Sandell was back on the bike this year & was throwing his tentacles off the bike & got a clean pendulum on the step-up during prelims. Justin Novella was flowing smoothly as usual & made things look beautiful & easy at the same time, but wasn’t long before he started spinning & getting upside down.
The MTB imports consisted of Danny Pace, Dylan Stone, Blake Samson, Olly Wilkins, Sam Reynolds & Matt Macduff. With a line up like that, we were in for a good show & the boys delivered just that for the crowds. Danny was doing the most extended Indian super seaters I’ve ever had the pleasure of witnessing, while Dylan brought some old school flavour with big suicides. Olly was boosting higher than anyone & getting so sideways… not even a little case every now & then was stopping him from getting through the line. Sam, Blake & Matt were just being complete maniacs & doing tricks that most South Africans have only been able to watch on TV.
After the MTB prelims the boys decided the wind had picked up too much to trick the line safely, so we moved straight to best trick. Blake just popped in & out for this one, but he didn’t need more after a he took on Clark Kent’s alter ego & did the flattest superman. Justin joined in on the fun too & didn’t waste any time getting to flips & then 3 no handers. I love watching Justin get amped with the imports & he pushes himself hard every year & this was no exception. He landed the things he knew he had & then went straight back to some unfinished business from last year & threw a few 720 attempts. After that everyone was blown away by the Reynolds & Macduff show. They were following each other & just handling business like the bosses they are. Super seater & flipwhip trains, double whips, triple trucks… not only massive tricks, but all pretty much landed 1st go in the dark. The boys were on form & the crowd was loving it! Sam took best trick with a flip 360 to end the night & then it was time for prize giving & after parties!

2015 Night Harvest was once again a pleasure to attend & all the riders had a great time in one of the most picturesque trail scenes SA has to offer. Looking forward to next year already!
