So to recap, what are listening to??
Trail Aeffect (or is it EAffect) with Josh Blum. Interviews trail builders and advocates. Really great content.
Just Riding Along: barely even a mountain biking podcast anymore, as the hosts have all gotten into hinting, moto, e-moto, and other pursuits. But it’s still entertaining, and they usually do an industry news and Q&A session. If you like listening to cynical, vulgar bike shop talk, this is kind of like that.
Wouldn't say its the best, episode per episode, but they do have some unique guests so Feeding Off Eachother is underrated. They gave Stark Dawgie an episode so they deserve credit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhD0WEzoCn0
Ebike specific, but I find the Recharged podcast, from Rob Rides EMTB on youtube, to be quite good to know about what's coming up in tech. Obviously they have a lot of embargoes etc, but they manage to convey quite a lot good info about trends and upcoming tech.
Feeding Off Each Other was great. They just posted their last episode as they shutter it indefinitely. Jason is leaving IFHT from what I understand.
Happy to make the list with OTB, it's all still a learning experience and a side project for me.
Always interested to hear what people are enjoying though!
Downtime is objectively the best MTB podcast. No question.
Making up the Numbers is great.
B Practice could be number one but they have the wrong accents.
Chris Kilmurray is the best guest.
Ask me anything.
Would never listen to pinkbike podcast. Cmon.
I can't believe I some how skipped B Practice! The insights from Dak are so awesome! B Practice always delivers.
CK is a fantastic guest and they work well together.
Chris K, Alan Milway, Dak, Neko, Jack, Joe and Emilie, Elliot, to hear these people talk racing is the best content.
Escape Collective (reincarnation of Cycling Tips which was bought and then burnt by Outside) has some mtb tech (mostly XC end but do touch on all the mtb tech other than DH maybe) in their Geek Warning weekly pod (out Fridays). Brad Copeland (most recently Kate Courtney’s mechanic) is there (almost) every episode to bring the mtb expertise. There might be some other podcasts from them for those interested in performance / physiology side of riding (some might be behind paywall - yearly subscription to EC).
In the same vein, Silca’s marginal gains. Very much on the performance side of riding and more road and gravel than mtb. Josh from Silca knows his stuff but be prepared to hear about waxing your chain, rolling resistance and aerodynamics rather than suspension kinematic or clicks or mtb geo.
Miss the Beyond the Tape talking tech episodes with Mick from WRP / Trinity and Lachie from SRAM (Aust - spinthatup on Insta). They were my all time favourite from any pod.
Pretty accurate list for my usual go to that aren't history related. I really enjoyed Wyn's Wyn or Lose podcast he started during COVID when things were shut down and they weren't going to race in 2020. Always kind of sad that never continued.
Miss the Beyond the Tape talking tech episodes with Mick from WRP / Trinity and Lachie from SRAM (Aust - spinthatup on Insta). They were my all time favourite from any pod.
Some great content!! LOVED those episodes as well. I go back and listen to them once in while when I run out of new stuff. I think Mick is brilliant.
One not mentioned I listen to is Front Lines MTB, a podcast solely focused on advocacy for trail access... or in their words:
"A Podcast for the people that truly make mountain biking happen. Not the riders, racers, or product designers but the builders, advocates and the often forgotten Board Members of your local Mountain Bike Trail Association."
Awesome, thank you! I will add that to my list.
Adventure Stache. Bit more gravely based but I love Payson's Interviews with the more adventurey type riders for the good backcountry stories. I get a bit lost on the gravel racing interviews.
Payson’s podcast is great for sure. The post race rider testimonials almost always have at least one segment that gives me chills or brings tears to my eyes as common folks retell their race day experiences both good and bad.
I host "The World's Okayest Mountain Bike Podcast" - it's pretty casual. Clean. We try to cover universal mtb topics when we can, but do have a lot of Midwest/Missouri content. When we do nerd out, it gets downright philosophical.
I'll be listening! I'm in the US Middle Western Northern Plains and I'd love to hear how flat your trails are (and other stuff)!
Awesome, I will give it a shot.
I would go all the way back to our 3rd episode. "How Bro are You?"
You might be disappointed then! Lol. We talk about Shepherd Mountain a lot, and those are the gnarliest trails anywhere between Windrock and Keystone. It's only 600 ft of vert, but it's the gnarliest 600 ft you'll find anywhere.
Our trails here are pretty flat so it was more an effort to commiserate than to judge. I half-assumed when you mentioned midwest that it'd be "midwest" as I understand it. I'd love to hear about whatever you have going on down there!
Missouri is truly it's own category. You think it's the Midwest until you go somewhere like Milwaukee, then you realize it's definitely more "southern" ... Then you go somewhere like central Arkansas and realize it's not the South, either. It really is a mix, and where I live was the population center of the USA in the 1980s and I would say, culturally, that's what you get. We definitely have the sad, flat trails. But we also have some gruesome granite. But things are getting better all the time. When I moved back to MO in 2017, I longed to get to Bentonville to ride a trail with jumps. Now, Shepherd Mountain is 35 minutes away and is gnarlier than anything in Arky. Steelville has Bentonville-style jump trails only 40 min away... And a former IMBA Epic is 20 min away. Life is actually pretty good for MTB in Missouri these days.
