Usually, US nationals are the the same venue 2 years in row. After 2 years at Rock Creek, it means 2025 nationals should be at a new venue. Does anybody have any intel? I hope we don't have to wait March like in 2023 to plan something. I heard rumors of Bentonville but I don't know how realistic it would be. It would make sense to be back on the west coast but I don't see any place that would be a good fit or motivated enough. Also USAC decisions don't always make sense to me.
Bentonville was definitely the talk at Nats. I live in NWA, and there’s not a proper DH track anywhere in the area at this point in time. If you traveled a little ways out of Bentonville, you could find the terrain to make a proper track but then you’re dealing with lack of infrastructure. I would love to see Angelfire as next years venue.
Going to be a hard sell to have anyone put up the money USAC wants looking at this last years entry list. The industry support at rock creek was terrible, Fox and Michelin were the only manufactures with any presence. No Sram, no Shimano, really no frame brands besides Yeti with a van and two easy ups.
If you cant sell pit space because there is no national series so no one has budget to travel nationally, and race entries are limited because of how expensive the race entry and licensing is, how does a venue or promoter want to take on the risk signing a contract with USAC for a large sum of money.
I would not be surprised to see Winter Park again or at least someplace "centrally" located.
You are right. Rock Creek is great for racing but I don't know how much better they can expect for some niche racing in remote rural North Carolina with XC being held somewhere else. Sure it would be cool if would be more like a kind of Crankworks with more spectators and things to do for them but it's not going to happen without USAC and the venue putting some serious effort into it.. As is it's not really more different than a regional race. From a racer perspective, I don't mind the smaller scale, it makes the logistics easier but also the field is not as deep (not that anybody cares for a cat1 national title but some classes were pretty small).
The people i know in communications at usac have no idea when they might have a venue announcement. With XC, Masters/JR Road , Pro Road and Masters Track all returning to the Southeast/Mid Atlantic next year, it would certainly be easier for the truck driver and the rental steel fencing to stay down south. There are very few destination marketing organizations that are willing to deal with USAC, it’s a miracle that Visit Hendersonville County was willing to play ball last minute a few years ago after Windham pulled out o hosting after new owners decided to can the bikepark.
USAC really needs to get out of the event promotion business, especially sports they know nothing about and have no stake in, but they are desperate for revenue, so that’s unlikely to happen any time soon. Good luck America.
I’d love to see natls go to a venue with some more infrastructure outside of racing. I realize this doesn’t matter to some but it’s a lot easier sell to my wife and little one to go to a place like Winter park or Snowshoe than Rock Creek, purely for the village and activities they can do while I’m out racing/practicing. Nothing against Rock Creek, I’m local to them and love that place, but it was tough entertaining a 2 and 4 year old all weekend there. For family stuff Bentonville would be good, but for riding it’s not my preferred destination. I do realize it comes down to who’s willing to deal with USAC, and that sounds like a short list…
Bring it to Purg in SW CO!
Not sure about the next 2 years but was just up at Sugarloaf for the ESC race and there were some whispers that they were going to be holding the 27/28 National Champs. Word is USAC wanted them to take 25/26 but they have a huge lift replacement project going on so that was not possible.
As much as I like sugarloaf and the surrounding area I hope that’s not the case. Hard to be more remote really.
I agree its remote...but not anymore than say Snowshoe. Sugarloaf has world class DH, Enduro and XC trails as well as the infrastructure to support a national. I would love to see it happen.
Sugarloaf is a couple hr drive from Portland Maine which is already a long drive from anywhere not in the northeast and not exactly a large airport. Snowshoe is a pretty doable drive from se and mid Atlantic, is a couple hrs from Pittsburgh and three from dc (a large and a major airport).
Again nothing against the area. I visited and it’s pretty incredible. Type of place I’d love to see a World Cup (where budget/time for travel is much less an issue). And I plan to go up there for an esc sometime. But I’d be worried that being so remotely located would effect attendance especially outside the pro category.
Sugarloaf is close to Mt St Anne though. So maybe the stars will align with schedules to make that work well.
Any update on this? I'm secretly hoping for snowshoe. They may be more willing to play ball now that they don't have a world cup there.
