RESULTS: 2024 Red Bull Valparaiso Cerro Abajo

The first race of the 2024 Red Bull Cerro Abajo series is in the books.

It was a war of attrition as the world's top urban DH specialists took to the streets of Valparaiso, Chile, to contest the first race of the 2024 Red Bull Cerro Abajo series. This course is fast and frightening at times, as the riders navigate the narrow streets and steep stairs while dealing with the, at best, variable surface conditions.

As we got into the top qualifiers, things got a bit weird this year. Johannes Fischbach had a nasty crash that led to a course hold - we hope Johannes is doing good, at this time of writing we don't know what condition he is in. Tomas Slavik snapped a chain out of the start gate and Camilo Sanchez had a flat, while another one of the favorites, Sebastian Holguin, massively overshot the big wall ride/shark fin feature to put an end to his challenge. In the end, fastest qualifier and last man to drop, Lucas Borba from Brazil, held his nerve to put down the winning run, narrowly beating out home favorite Felipe Agurto for the win. The series now moves on to Mexico in three weeks time, so stay tuned for more fast and furious street action from South America. Vamos!
