When Brandon Semenuk has a vision, he takes that vision and runs knowing the end product will represent his riding, his style and his philosophy. Lapse is the latest edit from the power duo of Semenuk and cinematographer, Rupert Walker. Together, they are Revel Co.
Lapse, Revel Co.'s latest edit, is an intense collection of never-been-done MTB slopestyle moves with a subtle, but graphic story line. Is Brandon facing the demons of past contests lost? Is he coming to grips with an over-saturated media landscape that can lessen the impact of his relevance in the future? Maybe none of it matters because, "time is always now?"
What does matter to us as viewers and fans is that Semenuk doesn't just try to rifle off a bunch of tricks we haven't seen and call it good - he does them all perfectly. His style is effortless, unforced and precise, making the visual impact of what he's doing so much richer. The edit embraces the important nuances of his struggle that could easily be dismissed. Face-dragging slams, fully committed, drifting pedal strokes into a massive lip - the details in the cuts are as precise as Semenuk's riding.
Lapse's highly progressive, technical slopestyle paired with engaging camera work and sharp editing is proof once again that Semenuk sees and understands bike riding in a way most of us never will. Half cab tailwhip off a drop? Forget about it.
