Initial Impressions
Collecting and transporting a bunch of gear is part of getting into mountain biking. I found this while looking for a luggage solution for a Whistler trip. I needed something that wouldn’t stink if it got wet, could hold a bunch of gear and clothes, and would last. I also didn’t want to spend that much since I was putting the money into the trip. This fit the bill for me and has been a great product.
Function
This gear bag is pretty simple. It has one large compartment and a second smaller compartment on the side for stashing things you need to get at faster. If you are looking for a high capacity bag, this will be great. If you want organization and compartments, keep looking. The removable shoulder strap is well padded with a grippy material. That was a nice touch to prevent the bag from slipping. Another bonus is the velcro handles so you don’t have to manage the two handles separately. The bag is made of canvas, so fyi there is no padding to protect your stuff.
Durability
I haven’t taken that good of care of this duffel, but the canvas has held up well. It has spent time in the truck bed, at campsites, and a bunch of road trips. The color has held super well and there are no tears or holes that have developed. It is not pitched as water resistant, but it keeps moisture out pretty well. It also has not held odor from stinky bike clothes and helmets. The seams are reinforced in a few places, and the velcro is still good. I would not send this through an airport though.
Bottom Line
This bag has proved itself for years and was a good investment.
Vital doesn’t have any linked to Jenson or Competitive Cyclist etc, but you can get the current model on backcountry.com which is the same parent company as Competitive Cyclist.
