Inaugural Winter Teva Mountain Games offers first winter freeride event in North America

01.26.12 (Goleta, CA) – For Teva® (a division of Deckers Outdoor Corporation, NASDAQGS: DECK) the countdown begins to February 9-12th where the top ten freeride mountain bikers will converge in the town of Vail, CO for the only winter competition in North America  at the inaugural Winter Teva Mountain Games presented by Eddie Bauer.

Teva team riders Jeff Lenosky, Cam McCaul, Kurt Sorge and Sam Pilgrim collaborated to create the list of 10 riders (one spot TBA) who were invited to take part in this weekend experience. Once in Vail, each rider will get exclusive access to the mountain - from lift tickets and rentals to housing and happy hours courtesy of the Teva team.

The 2012 rider list includes:
  • Kurt Sorge (Teva Team) - 3rd Place Red Bull Rampage
  • Sam Pilgrim (Teva Team) - 3rd overall in 2011 FMB Tour
  • Adam Hauck (Teva Team) - Multi Teva Mtn. Games Champion
  • Paul Basagoitia - Multi Teva Mtn. Games Champion, 2x Crankworx Champion
  • Cameron Zink - 1st Place Teva Mtn. Games, Crankworx and Red Bull Rampage
  • Mike Montgomery - 1st Place Teva Mtn. Games

The Teva Best Trick Bike presented by Thule competition will take place at the inaugural Winter Teva Mountain Games on Saturday evening February 11th at 6:30pm MST. The winner will be selected from a first run best trick followed by open jam session. Judges will also be awarding “random acts of radness” throughout the event.

“The premiere and most spectator friendly event we have lined up is the Teva Best Trick,” says Jeff Lenosky, Teva athlete, course designer and judge.“This is going to be a nighttime event taking place on a 40-50 foot jump, similar to what you would see snowboarders hitting. These guys will be throwing down their hardest tricks battling it out for $10,000.”

Other bike events taking place during the weekend include the Dual Slalom Downhill—an all-out speed descent on Vail Mountain's Golden Peak, with a $5,000 USD cash purse—and the On-Snow Bike Crit, a short-course format that covers the lower portions of Vail Mountain, with a $4,000 USD cash purse.

Teva introduced the Links, its first mountain biking shoe, in Fall 2011. Designed in collaboration with professional mountain biker Jeff Lenosky, the Links is a purpose-built freeride shoe loaded with technical features.
