This press release hit the inbox this morning and figured it was worth a post here. Chain Reaction's house brand, Vitus, with 3 models of their new carbon enduro bike

PRESS RELEASE
Vitus Bikes launch all new Sommet CR and CRX carbon Enduro models

Vitus Bikes, Chain Reaction Cycles’ in-house brand, have just released details of their new carbon Sommet Enduro mountain bikes which will be available later this spring.

Building on the success of the Sommet suspension platform which Vitus Bikes released in 2015, the company has today released the full details on its two all-new carbon enduro bike models.

The Sommet CR and CRX feature a full carbon monocoque ABS constructed front triangle; 3K weave with UD finish; full internal cable routing and a BB92 bottom bracket which enables increased stiffness through a maximised down tube profile.

Both carbon models feature a wishlist components package featuring RockShox Pike fork; SRAM X1/XO1 shifting; RaceFace cranks and components from WTB and Nukeproof . The only thing holding you back now is your own limitations!

Vitus Bikes Brand Manager Simon Cordner says this is an important development for the UK based brand;

“Our Sommet model has proved to be a huge success in the Enduro market over the last two seasons – providing a bike that is as capable taking riders on all-day epic rides through the Alps as it is at events such the Enduro World Series and Red Bull Fox Hunt”

He continued;
“We’ve invested significant R&D time into developing this new frame resulting in a carbon front triangle that is over 300gms lighter than the alloy version – with the complete CRX model tipping the scales at just 27lb! We’ll continue to offer our range direct to consumer worldwide through Chain Reaction Cycles ensuring that our customers get more bike for their money and the same world class customer service they have come to expect from Vitus Bikes.”

Vitus’s direct sales model will once again provide riders with a lot of bike for their money with the range topping Sommet CRX retailing at £3799.99 (UK) / €4999.99 (Europe) and $4499.99 (USA) and Sommet CR at £2564.99 (UK) / €3599.99 (Europe) and $3374.99 (USA).

I accidentally deleted the original post when i went to edit it with a follow up but basically I was airing my frustration with my 2016 Vitus Sommet VRX and the difficulties i was having in adjust the derailleur hanger even after ordering a new hanger. Read below to see how the team at Vitus really stepped it up and helped me diagnose my shifting troubles to a successful resolution.

FOLLOW UP

Can't speak highly enough about the folks at Vitus. Had a frame defect (drop out at seat stays not in tolerance) causing me real head aches with shifting. I posted about my issues on a vital article and THEY REACHED OUT TO ME to help get me sorted. Worked with the good folks at Vitus customer service and they helped me diagnose the problem and sent me the new seat stays. I was afraid that i'd made a big mistake going with a direct to customer brand because I thought I might not get the same level of support as I would from an LBS bought bike but they really stepped up. Customer service was better than my LBS bike where the amazingly i had another problem with my rear triangle and they wouldn't cover it.

Best bang for buck bikes and the best customer service I've had with a company in the bike industry. Vitus FTW!

What's a dag?

My Escarpe shifts perfectly with SRAM X1; Escarpe and Sommet share the same mech hanger.

Very pleased with mine, pedals like a champ, superb value. Will give it a good downhill test this weekend.

A DAG is a Derailleur Alignment Gauge. Its the thing you use the adjust your derailleur hanger alignment. If you get lucky and your bike is shifting nicely from the factory, congrats. Talk to me again after you have a rock strike and your hanger gets bent. I'd love to hear other peoples experiences. If other don't find that they have issues with ajusting their der hanger alignment with a DAG then it might mean i have something wrong with my frame.

I have never had to use a Derailleur Alignment Gauge, just use H, L, B screws.

Have you bought a new derailleur as well as a new hanger?

FOLLOW UP,
After this post, the good folks at Vitus REACHED OUT TO ME (already mind blown) to help me with my shifting problems. Here is what we discovered.

1) the hanger on the Vitus Sommet (and Escarpe i guess) is not meant to be adjust with a DAG. The interface between the drop out and the hanger is meant to be precisely matched such that upon installing a hanger it should be perfectly aligned.

2) The der hanger bolts are meant to be the point of failure in the der hanger system and designed (by material selection and size) to either stretch or sheer in the event of an impact. Thus, it was doing exactly what it was designed to do when ever i put the DAG in the hanger and started trying to align it.

3) As such something was wrong either with my hanger or with the drop out.Vitus sent me out a new 2017 der hanger which unfortunately didn't solve the hanger alignment which left only one other possible culprit; the dropout. SO they sent me a new seat stay which they tested for alignment and BOOM, it works perfectly.

Big thanks to Simon Cordner, Dale McMullan, and David Patten AKA the best customer service team in the biz.
