Guerrilla Gravity has always done things their own way. From their innovative sales approach called Shop Direct, to their well received GG/DH and Megatrail bikes which feature two purpose-tuned ride modes via the shock mounting position, furthering both bike's versatility. Keeping with the versatility theme, today they announce the release of their new, aggressive 29'er, the Trail Pistol. Like its predecessors, the Trail Pistol also features adjustable kinematics and geometry, but the motive behind this flip-chip adjustability is to alter the ride and feel of the bike for two different wheel sizes: 29" and 27.5+. Dig into the details of the new bike in Guerrilla Gravity's press release, below.
Guerrilla Gravity Presents: The Trail Pistol
As the “Singletrack Flyer,” the Trail Pistol inspires the kind of fun you only experience in the pit of a punk rock show. The kind of reckless fun that reminds you why you started mountain biking in the first place.
Designed to explore miles of endless singletrack with its efficient pedaling platform and rally the descents with its stiff chassis, progressive leverage curve, and playful geometry. The Trail Pistol allows you to keep in mind what’s really important: riding fast and having fun--but remember the lessons of Sid Vicious: safety third, not fourth.
And don’t be held back by the man: pick the wheel size that’s right for your life. Crush Mode and Plush Mode, accessed via the shock mount flip-chip, optimizes the geometry and suspension for 29” wheeled crushing or 27.5 Plus wheeled plushness--just like the fine velour carpet on the walls of your favorite music venue.
Plus, it's built right here in our shop. Those are pure American welds (f* yeah!)!
Guerrilla Gravity Trail Pistol Highlights
- GG-style Geometry: 120mm travel, 16.9”chainstays, roomy cockpit, 66.6º head tube angle with a 130mm travel fork (+/- .4º per 10 mm of travel)
- Crush Mode & Plush Mode
- Crush Mode: made for goin’ fast on 29” wheels
- Plush Mode: maintains a consistent BB height between wheel sizes, steepens the head angle a degree, and reduces the progression in the suspension. Ideal for 27.5 Plus wheels, but can be used as a less aggressive mode with 29” wheels.
- No fork swap necessary to use either wheel size!
- Future-proof Tire Clearance: 29x2.6; 27.5x3.0 (both are actual measurements, not claimed--since all tire manufacturers seem to use a different ruler)
- Low Standover: improves agility, specifically on smaller frame sizes
- Optimized Seat Tube Angle: The steeper angle maintains consistent geo as the saddle is raised and lowered
- “Follow the Leader” Standards: Boost 148 rear end and 210x50 metric shock sizing
- Robust Hardware: Universal Syntace derailleur hanger and axle system and easily-accessed Enduro Maxx bearings
- Super sweet Trail Pistol t-shirt exclusively provided with bike purchases (pic below)
- Frame Storage: Ditch the pack with the NUTS (Necessities Under the Saddle) Bracket and water bottle mounts (pic below)
New Freedom Linkage Suspension Platform
To keep the techno-files appeased, we’ve used our background in race car engineering to produce our new highly refined suspension platform: the Freedom Linkage. A BS-free platform that eliminates unnecessary complication while maximizing performance. A platform that’s made for goin' fast, yet is easy to maintain and built to last.
Why Horst Link? Marketing, mostly. Before we committed to switching to the more popular platform, we made sure the same go-fast qualities as our single pivot Megatrail layout were maintained: excellent pedaling characteristics and mid-stroke support. As an added bonus, we were able to reduce braking influence by 8%.
Guerrilla Gravity Trail Pistol Sizing
Small | Medium | Large | XL (coming Fall '16) | |
Height Guide | 5'3" - 5'8" | 5'9" - 6'1" | 6'1" - 6'4" | 6'4" - 6'8" |
ETT* | 23" | 24.3" | 25.5" | 26.8" |
Stack | 24.3 | 25 | 25.6 | 26.3 |
* We are firm believers in the advantages of roomier cockpits, but also note that our frame sizes are designed to run shorter stems than average and, therefore, run a slightly longer front-center. 98% of riders have found our Height Guide to be spot-on, the exceptions being riders with a skewed “ape index.”
