Fox Racing Launches the Proframe Helmet 7

With trail bikes as capable as the DH bikes of yesterday, more and more riders find themselves looking for a helmet that is light and ventilated enough for climbing while offering enough protection for getting rowdy on the way back down, especially when it comes to enduro - the race format or the riding type, whichever definition you subscribe to. We've seen a few convertible helmet options with a removable chin bar pop up lately, but now Fox is getting in the ring with a different take on the issue: a super light, highly ventilated yet fully ASTM DH certified full face helmet. Meet the all-new Proframe.

Fox Proframe Highlights

I rode it on an XC...sorry, enduro...ride the other day in near 80-degree heat. It felt weird riding a full face helmet uphill, but the first time i pulled out my water bottle, i smashed it into the face plate forgetting it was there as if i was in an open face lid. i can't say i felt any warmer in it than my A1 that i ride regularly. i rode this trail - https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/7004137 - no shade, sunny and like i said, near 80 degrees. for REAL downhill, i'd think it's still a bit undergunned, but i'm probably going to ride it at whistler (i don't get fully aggro on the DH these days...just groomers and the occasional plunk down natural runs).

Without any vents around the ears I can't see it being as cool as a Giro switchblade or some of the other enduro options. probably a bit lighter though

So can it be used for DH too? Last I checked lightweight and ventilated were things DH riders like too.

I understand that it technically meets the standards, but is there anything in the design that would make it less suitable or not suitable for DH? The fact that these press releases mention DH certification multiple times but stop shorty suggesting it for use as a DH helmet makes me feel like I'm missing something.

When you take stuff out, at some point that has to come at a cost. In this case, it's easy to see how branches and other items might more easily find their way in with all these vents, the open chin bar design etc. We have not yet tested it properly, so we don't know this for a fact, but it may also offer a less secure/stable fit, because of the smaller/thinner liner. Now, is any of that less likely to be a problem in a modern enduro race than in a DH race? Or when you send a big line on your trail bike because you pedaled up? The lines are clearly blurring...so like Brandon said, it's your decision/trade-off to make.
