Some tricky conditions made qualifying at the 2018 U.S. Open of Mountain Biking a difficult affair. The freshly cut course had been bedded in thanks to Thursday's practice, but consensus was that there was more moisture in the ground than normal. The Open Men's field has some World Cup-level talent gracing the results sheet and there's a solid Women's turnout. Luca Cometti (injured during practice yesterday and not racing), reported that the Women had the muddiest conditions of qualifying and that it started to rain toward the end of the Men's sessions. It had been raining steadily for over two hours since. Race day will be interesting.
