The State of the MTB Industry Post-COVID

Find out how a few brands have been weathering the economic climate following the COVID-19 pandemic, and hear their thoughts on where things are heading in the future.

During Sea Otter, I walked around and chatted with industry folks to get a pulse check on the state of our beloved mountain bike industry. I talked with  Santa Cruz Bicycles, Maxxis Tires, Feedback Sports, Transition Bicycles, Industry Nine, Orbea, FSA Components, Trek Bicycles, Hunt Wheels, and Privateer Bikes. My question was simple: now that we are a few years past the COVID bike boom, what is the state of the industry? Are things good? Are they bad? And where do you see things going in the next 12-24 months? Here is what people had to say.

  • :43 - Maxxis Tires
  • 5:57 - Santa Cruz Bicycles
  • 8:21 - Trek Bicycles
  • 9:52 - Hunt Wheels
  • 17:00 Transition Bikes
  • 21:27 - Feedback Sports
  • 24:32 - FSA
  • 26:52 - Industry Nine
  • 32:11 - Orbea Bikes

Hopefully, you are like me, and after listening to people's answers, you feel more optimistic and excited about the state of mountain biking than before. Sea Otter last week was absolutely jam-packed. The most crowded I've seen it in years. And the vibe amongst racers, riders, industry people, and media squids like myself, was that things are going to be alright. We will make it through this, and thankfully, bikes are still as fun as ever. So get out there and ride your bike, and when you can, support the brands that get you stoked on two wheels.
